Richard Chai Spring 2007
Posted: 9/28/06I’ve always liked Richard Chai. His work for Marc Jacobs was 100% to my liking, and last year’s Spring collection was one of my favorites. The 2006 spring collection featured female designs, leg-elongating pants, fitted moleskin coats and extremely sexy dresses which you’d love to wear out. Great stuff, seriously!
I checked out the Richard Chai’s 2007 spring collection today, and I’m a little less convinced about this one. The talented designer, often told to be one of the biggest ‘new asian influences on haute couture’ made the 2007 collection a lot less female in my opinion… Chai said his goal with this collection was to “make artfully crafted, special pieces that can be worn casually”, and even though I’m not saying he didn’t succeed, I am missing something… It’s still classy, it’s still wearable, but it’s not that jaw-dropping sexy collection I expected.
It’s not at all a bad collection though. The dress in the (small) photo accompanying this post is an example of how Richard Chai’s creations can combine class and sexy like no other.
