Premier Designs Jewelry?

by Daphne on May 23rd, 2007

Am I missing something important here? I had never ever heard of the Premier Designs jewelry company until today, when one of our readers posted a comment on a previous article about Lia Sophia. Does anyone have more information about this, other than that they have a pretty small website located at premierdesigns.com?

*there used to be a picture here, but Premier Designs asked me to take it down. Is there ANYONE who can send me some copyright free Premier Designs Jewelry photos? If so: thanks in advance!
Apparently they’ve been around in the US for over 22 years… Anyone can enlighten me? And what does the bible have to do with the jewelry? :D ;-)

  1. Hi everyone – Thanks for your input about R/E. I’ve been making the mistake of paying the $5.00 and I will stop doing that from this point on. I’m still learning the hard way!

    What is “Jewelry Bingo” and what do you use for this game?

    @Helen: I’m hapy to hear you didn’t take time off and instead took a night off to re-group. We all need that!

  2. Hi all .. business has picked up. I am doing my quick start. I got retired pieces from the home office during a visit and also from my upline. I sell it for $10 or $15 dollars.

    For my holiday tables …
    I purchased little blocks that say Blessings and Happy Harvest and a bag of colored leaves. I bought a gold table cloth.

    I purchased blocks that say Happy Holidays and I also bought a miniature tree with little ornaments and a wire basket that I placed some premier boxes with christmas scrunchies with little jingle bells on them.

    I have 7 of my 9 shows scheduled before October 4th. I love the new hostess benefits.

    I have found sticking with it has paid off. I just can’t let my feelings get hurt when they choose to pass.

  3. Hi, Gals;

    I want to clarify an earlier comment of mine. When I said I wasn’t bothered by low turnouts at shows, I meant that, of course, I want the very best turnout for my hostess, but if it doen’t happen, it doesn’t stop me from being excited about my next show or Premier itself.j

    I feel personally responsible for my shows as far as turnout b/c it may be a reflection of my hostess coaching – even thoough I think I am thorough. Maybe I need to counsel upline to see where I can improve. And I can ALWAYS improve.

    Oh, Lilly;

    I’m so totally getting what you are saying about low bookings. It can be very discouraging. Try to think like Scarlett O’Hara, “….because after all, tomorros is another day.” Don’t mean for that to sound trite, but sometimes there is no explanation. Try to stay tough.

    O.K., Kristen;

    You win. What is Jewelry Bingo? Please be specific.

    Hood-n-House is O.K. Haven’t figured out yet how to make it more viable. Time will tell. I have everything entered so far except R/E’s. Maybe next year.

    Oh, my stars! The new holiday jewelry is here! I ordered the holiday catalogs today. Can’t wait to get the PD Update – there will be a catalog in it. Yippee!! We all get the 30% of CV – that’s in additon to the 50% off retail. Wow!

  4. Hi Everyone – Regarding fundraisers, I know someone who is having one for a book she wrote so I asked if I could come with my jewelry and donate half my profits to the organization she is raising money for. She agreed and I figure it will be a way to make some contacts and maybe get some bookings. I will have a raffle and collect names of people I could call in the future as potential hostesses. Hopefully I will have good news to report!

  5. Ladies;

    Are any of you going to order the holiday line? Have you ordered it already? It’s tough to do w/o seeing first, even though it will all be beautiful. There are 29 pieces. Don’t know if I want to add that many pieces at once to my already bulging table.j

    But, wow, 30% off CV as well as our normal discount? We’d be crazy not to.

  6. Blingo is basically bingo, but you win jewelry as prizes instead of money. You can get a group of women together, get some cards, little pebbles and a caller. You play regular bingo or mix it up.

    I haven’t purchased the catalog yet since I want to see if first, but then I guess that doesn’t matter because it should be available for my customers! I’m just trying so hard to save my money!!!! I’m sure I’ll get maybe 5 items the most!

  7. @Helen: How do you know about the 30% because I don’t see it anywhere. Is it already deducted from the prices shown?

  8. Hi everyone,

    So glad to see this board being used more! I read about Jewelry Bingo on one of the Premier sites. You basically create bingo cards by writing names of jewelry on the squares. As you do your fashion show, ladies cross off the names of the bracelets, necklaces, etc on their card. It’s another way of making your jewelry presentation interactive. I haven’t tried it yet but will report on how it goes.

    Helen – Can you explain why ordering from the holiday catalog is different than buying samples from the regular catalog? Thanks!

  9. Hi, Everyone;

    Go the PD site. They have a list of the new holiday jewelry. I pulled up that list and called Premier and that’s when I found out the prices listed are 30% off CV!!!!! Hello? Wow!!! Le’ts do the math. If an item retails for $60, we pay $30 as jewelers. Take 30% off the $30 – that is an additional $9 off the retail price; so we can get a $60 item for $21. It actually comes out that we pay 35% of retail. Yummy! If you sell for 1/2 price off your table, you still make 15%.

    I admit giving jewelry samples as prizes is costly, but I look at it this way: I’ve used it on my display, modeled it on guests, worn it myself, hopefully sold it, and now I can use it as a prize. Your samples are a biz exp. Get as much use out of it as possible; but also be ready to let it go. Let it serve you and then ‘let it go.’

    Thinking of getting the entire line. I can pay it off in a few shows. At that price, sell it off the table in December and/or use it as prizes come January.

    There are 29 new pieces. My only challenge is that I already have too much jewelry. Arggghhhh…………..

  10. Here’s how I slow myself down from ordering too much jewelry: I must remember there will new pieces introduced again in January – and January will be here before you know it.

    Think it through carefully.

    I ordered 5 12-paks of the holiday catalogs. I will give those out freely (unlike the regular-line catalogs). I will put them into my lapboards in front of the reg. catalogs. I want the ladies to keep them in their purses (will staple my biz card to each one).

    Your guests will order from the holiday catalog just like they order from the reg. cat. Kristen, I’m not sure about your question. Does this answer it?

    Premier is just giving us an enormous gift with the additional 30% off CV.

  11. Hi ladies,

    Well, I don’t know why, but I woke up this morning feeling overwhelmed about this upcoming weekend. I will be attending a leadership training with about 25 of my fellow jewelers and will be gone the entire weekend. I know it’s a great opportunity to help grow my business and we will get a lot of one on one training as opposed to the rallies, but I can’t stop thinking about how much money I will have to spend on babysitting fees! My husband works on the weekends which means I always need a sitter for my two toddlers and I rarely do weeknight shows because most of the requests are for weekends. I figure, “well, $50 for babysitting…vs not getting at least $200 in profit is what I gotta do.” I didn’t have a lot of parties this month, so the money I have saved will more than likely be used to chip in for the food at the retreat and for babysitting. On top of that, I started thinking about next year and how am I gonna get bookings for Januaray, Feb and March! What a way to start the morning!!! I don’t like being a bad mood so early in the AM, but now I can’t stop thinking about it. My upline informed me that attending this training will help grow my business and take me to the next level, which it did for her. She has about 27 jewelers under her and has been very successful. I need to think about this being an investment and that in the future, it will help me be a much better jeweler and support for my downline. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and praying that this feeling of anxiety goes away soon!

    @ Kristen: would you happen to remember which site you found the blingo cards. It sounds very interesting!

    Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

  12. Hi, Lilly;

    My heart went out to you as I read your post. Don’t know always what to do about those kinds of days. You will have a great time. As moms, we tend to feel guilty about being away and spending money on ourselves; but I try to remember that I will come back more equipped to sell more and sponsor more.

    You will really start to enjoy PD with sponsoring. I loved my downline – she was a true joy to work with – and the commission checks were nice.

    I need to sponsor more.

    Since starting PD, I try to make the most of my home nights. I endeavor to cook a good hot meal and sit down with the family – really be there. And then try to really relax with them. It’s amazing how good you feel about that.

    I am constantly working to make my business more efficient time-wise. I could spend an entire day after each show rearranging my jewelery, refillng lap boards, entering show, Pro-Pay, bank deposits, etc. But now I go at it like a house-a-fire! Git-er-done is my new motto.

    Set the timer for 30 min. increments and really push yourself. I love the challange.

    If you have shows several nights in a row, you really have to get with the program. If you work, there is no time to dally with the jewerly. When that occurs, a I am packing up my show to leave the host. home, I refill my combo trays right then. Focus.

  13. I’m trying to decide what to order. I have trouble thinking about parting with any of the jewelry….haven’t done that yet. Some of the retired pieces I really like and don’t want to part with. I suppose that get’s easier with time.

    @Lilly: I feel guilty often because I work a full-time job plus do Premier. Although I’m not booked with many parties, I still feel guilty when I’m gone. I paid a babysitter so I could go to training last week. That was tough after having been gone all day. I understand how you feel.

  14. Hi Ladies – Got the catalog today – everything is so nice!

    I found the Bingo (Blingo) idea on Nancy Schwartz’s web site (www.schwartzconnection.com). Email me if you need the login/password – I’m at kranders62@yahoo.com.

    Helen, I made some really cute door hanger signs today! I determined that as much as possible I would only use materials I have on hand. I’m a recovering scrapbooker, so that wasn’t a problem. I made 4 signs – one for me and 3 for future prospects (!) Email me if you’d like to see a photo.

    Best to everyone!

  15. I hope the catalog comes today. Anxious to see the new holiday line. Bravo on the door hangers.

    Trying to balance work and Premier with a family is key to being successful. Don’t know how to counsel anyone on that b/c everyone’s situation is different. Being totally open and honest with your husband is your best bet. He’s the one you sleep with – the one you will grow old with – the one to help you out of bed when you get old. We must put our spouses first.

    I think we have to try to think how we’d feel if he was out several nights every month doing direct sales. Would we be totally supportive? I’d like to believe we would be. If we keep them totally in the loop as our utmost counelors, we will be better off.

    Finding that balance will allow our businesses to really take off b/c we’ll be so free to work them. Face it, jewelry is fun. Showing it to other women is fun. Learning fashion ideas is fun. Seeing other women love the jewelry is fun.

  16. Lilly – Have you reached out to last year’s hostesses to see if they’d like to rebook for the holidays – maybe offer them $25 of extra free jewelry?

    I ordered 16 items from the new line – kind of scary but such a deal and I know they will sell. Now I have to book more shows! Going for 25 shows by mid December. It will be a stretch!!

  17. How does it work when you sell things off your table? Do you charge tax? How does it work for the hostess since the person isn’t placing an order?

  18. Anne;

    When you sell pieces off your table you must reorder something of equal value (a total of of dollar for dollar) ex.: say you sell $100 off your table (at half price so you collect $50) you need to order $100 retail of something to replace it on your table.

    I always offer this ‘sale’ at my shows, especially when I really want to move some things I don’t care for. If I am trying to reduce the # of items on my table I will order fewer higher priced things. Say I sell three things and it comes to $100; I’ll order only a watch to replace it so now I have one item instead of 3.

    Now, this is your biz and you can do whatever you like, but I have found it’s best to do what gives the most benefit to your hostess.

    I am getting ready to have a sample sale open house in my home. That way I can sell it at a discount and not have to replace it. Also, today, after church, I’m going to lay out all my jewelry and pull out several pcs. to be used as prizes. I have three prizes per show, so it helps me get rid of some things.

  19. I ordered 20 of the holiday pieces. I was told many of them will be offered in the new spring line-up so there is no worry about them going out of the line soon.

    I try not to panic about having so much jewelry. It’s all so beautiful.

    Thinking about not putting it all out at shows anymore. Put up my 2 show cases and maybe 4 -5 trays, a few neck boards, and that’s it. Tear down takes me 30 min. with a full set up, but I feel overwhelmed at that time and it doesn’t get put away properly. I’m in such a hurry, it just gets put whereever.

    I must find a way to put it back so it is ready for the next show. Don’t know how to do that and still have the combos picked out for the next show. Everything gets scattered at my shows with being tried on and modeled; and it would take far too long to put it away perfectly. Does anyone else have that problem?

    I really think it’s a matter of having too many pieces.

  20. How do you ladies feel about the undercutting going on at ebay? I see so many PD sales I don’t know if home shows will last much longer. Why would our customers pay full price when they can go to an auction site and get the jewelry much cheaper. Obviously some of our representatives are selling online even though all the sellers have stated that they are not affiliated with PD. The new line is already being listed! How am I supposed to pay off my kit? I’m a new consultant and having second thoughts that I have made a great mistake.

  21. Thank you Helen for the info. about selling jewelry off the table. I just don’t want to part with anything! I don’t have that much so selling what I have doesn’t seem to make sense yet.

  22. Chery;

    You have brought up a valid point. Not sure how we as jewelers or how Premier, itself, will deal with it. They are aware of it, as are all direct-sales companies. It is discouraging to see new pieces up for sale when we know it is jewelers who are doing it.

    I have to believe I am offering a great service, not to mention the Golden Guarantee, to my guests. My concern is having someone bring something to me at a show that they got on e-bay and wanting something different. Premier is working on this problem. I have noticed they are becoming a little more stringent on the guarantee issue.

    Keep in mind, you are there to service your guestss. They can’t get that on e-bay. I know, I know, some people will say they don’t care about ‘service.’ That is, until they need it. Then everyone suddenly want service and they want it now.

  23. Breaking up these posts cuz’ if you type for too long, your post disappears.

    I think the legal challenge is pretty hairy, i,e., technically, it IS their property to do with as they wish after they have purchased it. I have no problem buying things at a yard sale in the usual way.

    But, the PD contract we signed states that we are not to sell our jewelry this way. I realize some people will do as they like regardless of what they agreed to. Sign of the times we live in.

    Our job is to represent PD with integrity and honesty; always doing what is best for Premier. They have our backs. It’s the least we can do.

    Before you throw in the towel, think about it this way: every direct-sales company is going thru this very situation, and yet, the continue to grow and prosper.

    For me, and this is only for me, I would feel as if I was buying ‘hot’ merchandise from e-bay knowing what the contract states.

    I am judging no one. I have to do what I know is right for me.

    Lilly;

    How did your weekend go? I’d love to know what you learned! Do share.

    Anne;

    It’s only a matter of time before you will need to unload extra jewelry. I am working on that as we speak.

    I am keeping a box of ‘retired’ pieces in my office, so that on those days when I’m running crazy, I can grab from a few pcs. (as opposed to going thru the hundreds of pcs. I have) and get out the door. I am the only one who knows it’s retired.

  24. @Cheryl – Welcome to Premier! I think that as long as ladies like/need to get together for fellowship, there will be home shows. Sure, we will lose a percentage of business to the Internet (annoying), but many of my customers are not computer savvy nor have they heard of Premier (I live in an unsaturated area). Many women come to home shows because they enjoy being with other women. That’s why I attended my very first Premier show and what I see ladies enjoying at my shows.

  25. Hi Cheryl – As far as ebay, customers don’t get a guarantee and “just get what they get” so to speak. I don’t believe many people would take a chance with ebay b/c they don’t know what they are really getting. My guess is it’s not that big of a problem. I don’t know if Premier can stop people from selling on ebay since it’s not regulated.

  26. I just became a jeweler with PD and I would love to do shows at my house for other people that don’t have the time to set something up. I would take care of the whole show including food for a small fee, all they need to do is show up with their friends. Does anyone do this if so how is it working for ya, thanks

  27. Helen, I read your comment about tear down after a show and I’ve found something that helps a LOT! I went to Walmart and bought some scrapbooking trays. They were $9 each and fit perfectly in my case. Now I have all my earrings in one tray, necklaces in another, and bracelets and tools in the last. It’s great and I can see at a glance if Im missing something and it saves so much time!
    Hope that helps!

    Jess

  28. Kristen;

    I think you hit the nail on the head. Women still love to get together for fellowship, food, and chit-chat. The jewelry is the sparkle at these gatherings.

    Sandee;

    Welcome to Premier and this awesome website. Please stick around as we are a fun and informative group and we always enjoy fresh ideas from the newbies.

    As far as doing the shows at your home, you can always offer that as an alternative. I’ve never had anyone take me up on it, but I am more than willing to provide that service if the occasion arises. Thank you for reminding us of that option.

    Jess N.;

    Thanks for the tip. Do these trays fit into our Premier purple jewelry bag? I have over 300 pcs.

  29. Ladies;

    In an effort to reduce the # of pcs. of jewelry I have, yesterday I went thru all my jewelry (took me about 3 hrs.) and pulled pcs. to be used as show prizes (I have 3 prizes for every show), items to sell at 50% off, and items to be sold for $10 – after they have purchased at least $50 retail (before tax and shipping).

    I need to pare it down with the spring line fast approaching.

    The question always surfaces: how do I pick?

    O.K., I have had some pcs. on my dsiplay for almost 3 yrs. They go first. Also, I’ve noticed that some pcs. rarely get even a cursory glance – also, got to go. And sometimes, I’m just not really crazy about some pcs. – yup, they gotta go, too.

    Mentally, after I do this, I really feel like I am more organized and my stuff is cleaned up. Also, I tell myselft, “Now, get your butt in gear and start selling!”

    Could we take some typing space and go over our best booking activities thoroughly? I need to polish my presentation in this area.

    Anyone?

  30. Well, I wrote a novel yesterday and it didn’t appear, so this is my condensed version!

    @ Cheryl…welcome! I would agree with everyone about eBay, Premier’s policy, etc. I don’t buy stuff from ebay. I think I did once and was lucky it was brand new; however, people are buying without seeing it first…just like our catalogs, but at least at the home shows, they can come visit with their friends, kick up their feet and have fun while playing with the jewelry. I don’t think eBay will put all the direct service out of business, but like everyone has posted, they can do what they want with their stuff. I wouldn’t, only because I wouldn’t want to get in trouble and I don’t have time to scan pictures, post them on eBay and deal with all the other stuff.

    @ Sandee: I had a friend host a party at my place and it worked out well for her because she was living at home with her parents and they didn’t want to have a lot of people there. She brought the food and I provided the home. It worked well. You can offer this to those that throw out the “my house is too small” objection. I think it’s a nice thing that you are willing to do. It shows how much you want to help them have a successful show and limit the stress for them having to worry about it.. Great idea!

  31. @ Helen & everyone! Well, I went to Cambria for our leadership training last weekend and had a lot of fun! I’ve been to sales retreats when I worked in the corporate world, but what was different was that I was forced to go to those things whereas here, I wanted to be here. This was for my business and to help me be a good leader for my downline. There are some women that are designers and have expressed their stories about their downline not booking shows. So for them, they were there to find out what they can do to help whether its provide incentives or tools to help motiviate. We had great raffle prizes ( I won a petite showcase & jewelry diva bag), teamwork activities, food, testimonials from other leaders and fun skits! Our first night there, we stayed in a Victorian style house with 10+ rooms and 2 -4 in each room. We had training on both days and watched a great movie called The Script! You gotta watch it. It makes a lot of sense if you are in this business. They suggested that we know our downline, understand their goals and dreams. If they want to do 2 or 3 shows a month, while you like to do 8 or 10, then great! That’s their goal, let them be who they want to be. I always thought I was supposed to be this perfect jeweler and so glad when I heard people say that they’re not. What’s great about Premier, is that you can be yourself! You don’t have to be that “cheerleader” type that screams, “don’t you just love this piece?!” If it’s not you, it’s not you. But do build a relationship with your downline. Pray for them and for yourself. We had 21 women in one house! There was no drama, no crying, nothing. We all got a long and had a lot of fun. If there is training like this offered to you, do it! It’s an investment and it’s refreshing to know you are not alone!

  32. I about to purchase 9 holiday items! I keep going back and forth about the cost even though it’s a great deal because I’m trying to pay off my Premier card first! It’s funny, once I see that it’s going down, boom, Premier adds my RSVP fee and it’s up again! Gotta do another show to pay it off, right? Did you guys check out the big black rose on the back of the catalog? I actually think I’m gonna get it! LOL….it’s different and maybe the younger crowd will like it too. We’ll see.

  33. Jess N.;

    I am intrugued by the ‘scrapbooking trays,’ however, I have hundred of pcs. and all my earrings will not fit into one tray – nor will my gobs of neclaces. I simply have too much stuff. It’s O.K. though. I am slowly eliminating.

    Lilly;

    Sounds like you had a blast at your Cambria training. Was it just for those who have downline? And, yes, I did order ‘Rosette,’ (black rose on back cover) just b/c it’s so different! The new stuff should be here any day now. We simply must talk about how we will ‘combine’ it w/our other pcs. I’ve been working on that. I make a list of possiblilities while I’m waiting.

  34. Our trainer last week said that retail is higher when trays are used as opposed to cases – guests are more apt to pick up and try on the jewelry when it’s accessible. In reality I haven’t found that to be the case – retail at my jewelry shows was much higher when we used my sponsor’s showcases.

    @Helen – Have you tried putting different color liners in your trays? Maybe people will remember to put it back in the right tray. You could use your extra jewelry to do a “Tower of Treats” for the holidays – wrap it up and raffle it off when you get 3 bookings.

    I have about 130 pieces. The table is full but ladies often ask to see items I don’t have. And when they order it, they are sometimes disappointed because it doesn’t match what they thought they were getting. It’s definitely a balance.

  35. Hi, the scrapbooking trays do fit in the premier bag and I can get three in and three jewelry trays. Some of the spaces I double up (ovation and Arabian nights for example). They may not work for 300 pieces, but they work well for my 100+. Good luck!

  36. Kristen;

    I know a jeweler who uses 5 show cases plus her trays from the purple bag. That’s a ton-o-jewelry! I wish I had 6 show cases – I’ve often thought I’d prefer to use ONLY cases. Set ‘em up, open ‘em up. Done. You could be set up in 5 minutes if you were slow. The $125 per price tag stops me from that method.

    For me, I’ve just got to cut way back on the jewelry. I honestly don’t think I’d sell any less if I only had 100 pcs.

    I have different colored liners for several of my trays as well as the colored book covers. Makes no difference. There’s no way to remember where it all goes.

    I know what you mean about the disappointment some experience when they order jewelry sight unseen. Don’t know what’s to be done about it. They order like that on-line all the time. I remind them of that.

    Almost all of my tray ‘spaces’ have at least 2 pcs. of jewelry in each. It’s crammed in there and I can barely get the trays into one rolling jewelry bag. It’s very heavy.

    The hooks and knobs of my show cases have at least 2 neclaces each on them. When I tell you I have a gob, I’m not kidding.

  37. I’ve heard that some jewelers always have the entire line at all their shows. They simply use almost strictly show cases. Wise women.

  38. I am thinking of becoming part of PD. I have a freind that is and really enjoy having and going to the parties. I am just not sure if I can afford to be a jeweler. What advice do you ladies have for someone thinking about adding this to her full time job and family?

  39. @ Sarah…DO IT! I was in your position a year and a half ago and even came to this blog before I became a jeweler and read all the postings. I didn’t think I could afford it either but signing up for the Premier card really helped and it allowed me to pay off for my investment within 6 shows. Now, everything I make is my profit which I put towards supplies, jewelry and fun. Since I’ve been a jeweler, I also have 3 jewelers in my downline. They too loved the jewelry, wanted to make some extra money and were financially strapped. One borrowed money from her parents and paid them off with 4 shows. Another used the Premier card and the 3rd paid by check, but has been using her jewelry that she ordered at a show before becoming a jeweler. Plus, Premier will help you get started with the Quickstart. If you can do it and want to do, I’d say, ‘welcome to Premier!” Keep us posted on what you decide to do.

  40. Sarah;

    Be realistic about how much time you can devote to your business. It’s easy to say, “I’ll only do 4 shows a month (or whatever) but it is very difficult to maintain that ideal if you get the bookings. None of us wants to ever lose a booking and you will learn very quickly about the need to overbook.

    The challenge of overbooking is you never know what will hold; and you must prepare for each show to the very last detail regardless of the outcome.

    These are typical business frustrations. If you always remember this is a business and that these challenges are absolutely normal, you will be O.K.

    It may sound trite to say, ‘Get enough rest and eat your Wheaties,’ but it reallyy is important to be diligent about your health and home when persuing any business on top of a job and family. Ask yourself if you would be O.K. if your husband decided to start another business, too. Would you be totally supportive of him being out several nights a month and trainings, too?

    If he has a hobby, be very supportive of that hobby. It’s a two-way street.

    As women, we think we can do everything; but time is our enemy. Manage it well and it will serve you well.

  41. Sarah;

    I had another more business detail post but it vanished.

    In a nutshell:

    keep the stuff you take to your shows to an absolute minimum and that included jewelry (limit to 100 pcs.)

    strictly limit the amt. of superfluous stuff you take, i.e. neckboards, manequin, prizes, props, decorations, etc. It will overtake you if you aren’t careful

    time yourself on set-up and teardown – force yourself to 20 min.; if you can’t do it, eliminate stuff!!!

    put your husband first every time and you will never regret it

  42. Sarah;

    Sorry about so many posts. They keep disappearing!

    Get with your sponsor and have her show you her tax files and system. You absolutely must get a handle on and keep up on your tax receipts. Don’t let her pass you off to an accountant. You must know what worked for her if she has filed at least one year w/Premier. The IRS is not as lenient as in the past. Not everything is a tax write-off any more.

    Be honest with yourself on your expenses. Do not incorporate them into your home expenses, say w/your grocery budget, etc. Be brutal about your profit.

    Think long and hard about spending your profit on personal things. If you have been managing on your job incomes up to now, do not steal from your PD biz EVER!

    If you force yourself to use your PD checking acct. for every biz transaction, you will be a wise business woman. That’s how real businesses work. They have a ledger that is a truth serum. You can’t deny the ledger.

    You can do this. Don a business mantle and endeavor to be true to yourself.

    Ask your husband to look at your ledger and expense receipts every month ask for his counsel on how you can imporve. He will appreciate being kept in the loop and he will be more suppotive.

  43. I keep hearing about this Premier Card. Is that based off your credit score to be able to qualify or how does that work. Because honestly my credit score is not that great since my husband was laid off 2 years ago. He is working again and we are trying to get back on our feet but as anyone knows that can take a while. I really want to and alread have a lot of people telling me that they will do parties I am just trying to decide if I can afford it. I am meeting with my friend to go over all the details tomorrow night so we shall see.

  44. I think show cases is the way I’d like to eventually go – seems so easy just to pull them out and open them up. This will provide more time to visit with the hostess and guests and relax a little.

    @Sarah – The build-up to starting your business takes the most time. After your training show and you start doing shows, everything falls into place. I’ve heard it suggested that you spend 15 minutes every day making calls and booking shows. That’s critical to your success.

    @Lily (and everyone) – I’ve been thinking about what you said about being satisfied with the shows you have – perhaps God is setting time aside for your children. I’m a new jeweler so I have a fair amount of warm market shows in Oct. However, there’s 1 weekend in October in which I COULD NOT book any shows. I couldn’t figure out why this was happening. And then my husband and I found out we were selected by a birth mother to adopt her baby. We need a free weekend in Oct to visit and you can guess which weekend we’ll be going. It’s so awesome to remember that God knows every detail and helps us along the way.

    I hope this encourages you all. Wishing you blessings in your business this month.

  45. Sarah;

    As for the PD credit card, counsel with your sponsor. If all else fails, use the PD jewelry you already have + see if you can borrow some from your sponsor for your fist few shows. You can slowly add more pcs. to your table from your profits.

    The beautiful thing about doing it this way is, it’s paid for as you go. That is a wonderful feeling. You will be great at this.

    I always say to someone who is reluctant to host a show is this, “Mary, it’s just jewelry. We’re not getting married, we won’t even date.”

    It seems to loosen them up a bit.

    Kristen;

    Congratulations on your new baby! Wow,

    I totally agree w/you about possibly using only show cases for ease at your shows. You could take a few pieces from the show cases and hang them from the corners of the cases to soften them. Lay a few pieces across the front of them – makes a pretty presentation. Less is more in this case. – no pun intended.

  46. Thanks! The baby is due Feb. 1 – which will give us lots of time to get ready (we’ll be new parents :).

  47. @ Kristen: Congrats! You are right, God knew exactly what he was doing thus allowing you the time you need to welcome your new addition! I still need to tell myself that the Lord has a plan. I have been pretty good about sending my newsletters regarding our upcoming promotions and I’m also offering an incentive to book. I wish more people would jump on this opportunity, but when I was looking at our October calendar, I noticed that my almost 4 year daughter has been invited to two birthday parties from her preschool friends and we as a family have been invited to 2 more parties for our friend’s children. That’s (4) parties this month! I really hope November is a lot busier because I have only one party booked for October! I keep telling myself, “do not compare yourself to others”, “do not stress”, “do not sweat the small stuff” and most importantly, “do not be jealous of someone else’s success….but we happy for them for we do not know what lays ahead for them.” Back to networking!

    PS: Be sure to cut and paste after each entry just in case your posting doesn’t appear. It’ll save a lot of time!

  48. @Lilly – Sounds like you can focus on lifestyle bookings with 4 social functions in Oct! Enjoy!

  49. Lilly;

    You are right, i.e., we need to be happy for the success of other jewelers. There wil always be jewelers who will seem to do extraordinarily above and beyond every one else. That doesn’t bother me a bit. I am happy righ where I am.

    I love the jewelry so much, nothing else seems to matter.The displays at the trainings are always so pretty and I spend all my free time looking over their display methods and asking questions.

  50. Hi Ladies, I just found this website and am enjoying all the comments and information. I am curious about Anne’s comments about not paying the $5.00 for R/E. I can not see past comments so I do not know how that conversation started. Can someone fill me in? Thanks
