Plaids are In for Fall – Evening Wear by Diane von Furstenberg

by Daphne on October 15th, 2008

One of this year’s trends is a variety of plaids in blue, green, purple and pink. Invariably, plaids seem to come and go. When they are out of fashion they appear antiquated, almost dusty and extinct but when they are in vogue, both males and females look smart in plaid blazers and sweaters. Women also look sharp in plaid coats with shawl collars, jumpers with pretty blouses or turtlenecks underneath, and plaid skirts with matching jackets or blouses and complementary cardigans.

While we earnestly accept plaid as a fashion statement, the design is usually associated with suits, casual cold weather wear, and even children’s school uniforms. We rarely think of plaid crafted into elegant eveningwear. But Diane von Furstenberg shows just how beautiful plaid can look in her Fall 2008 selection of gorgeous dresses. Her pretty “Little Ann Dress” in black and navy ombre tartan is sexy enough for any party with its fine straps and tight fitting design. The same fabric and color is used in a Diane von Furstenberg sleeveless sheath dress for Neiman Marcus.

Another striking design is the “Jovana Dress in Hutong Plaid”. A beautiful eye catching plaid with black accents, this straight line, Lurex knit jacquard dress boasts a sexy off-the-shoulder neckline and cap sleeves. But the most breath taking creation in plaid is the “Olivette Dress in Camel”. A magnificent camel glen plaid with black lace bodice and long black lace hem, this style is ultra delicate and absolute luxury.

Agreeably, this extraordinary collection is not an example of the average use of plaid!
