Phillip Lim Launches New Store

Hollywood darling and winner of this year’s Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent in Womenswear (how do they even fit that long title on a plaque, it must be HUGE), Phillip Lim opened his first boutique this week in New York.

Lim’s work is ultra chic (think French pixies, lots of Audrey Tatou/Hepburn hybrids running around) and most of the pieces are accessible for the everyday woman. I’d love to wear his clothes. The problem with Lim is that while he’s sometimes such a hit;

He can also be a real miss;

I mean, really, that last dress is about as far from chic as a McDonald’s Happy Meal. Can you even imagine what I would look like in that? Or the lumberjack vest second from the left? Actually, I’d think it prefer it to the Blade Runner tribute that appears to be the first dress.

Lim, when you’re on – you’re on. But, when you’re off, it is so very off.
