Ostrich Frenzy


Ostrich Lamberston bagWhen I was in Ghana last year, I was surprised by the number of Ostrich farms (I knew 4 ostrich farmers in a 50km radius). Now, as I flip through this season’s fashion mags, I’m starting to understand this sudden rise in Ostrich husbandry.

Ostrich leather accessories and feathered dresses are everywhere this year. The leather, with its trademark feather bumps, is instantly recognizable and remarkably supple. You’ll see it on everything from shoes to bags to belts to wallets. The feathers, while not particularly remarkable, are showing up more on dresses and hats too (possibly simply as a byproduct of the interest in ostrich hide). See below;
