I've been invited to MANY of these parties, L.S. included. I have 5 this month alone. They are horrible, and here are the reasons...from the perspective of an attendee.
#1. The products are mediocre. I don't care the guarantee, return policy, whatever. L.S. rarely has any REAL valuables in their jewelry and if they are, see #2.
#2. The products are expensive. I'd rather shop at Neiman Marcus or Nordstrom.
#3. Your friends and family are supporting your paycheck. Are they your friends and family or your clients?
#4. No obligation = obligation. I hate it when people tell me "No obligation" right before they pour me champagne and later try to push more expensive products on me when I have made a purchase.
#5. You don't NEED any of the products. So why would I spend so much on them?
#6. It's awkward and uncomfortable for your guests. People buy because they feel obligated to, or in my case, because I feel bad the person can't get a real job.
#7. There's an answer for everything. I can't attend = order from the magazine, host a party for me with YOUR friends, attend the one I'm having next week. I don't like to scrapbook = buy another product you don't need or want. And then I'm going to pass your name to someone else who sells for another company that makes their money off new sellers rather than products.

Give it up.
