Etsy.com is one of my favourite sites to find clothing, accessories, home items, and crafts from truly independent designers. Etsy is about one-of-a-kind, handcrafted pieces (a few thousand of them) as well as building a community for the designers’ themselves. I know that at my local market, there’s a weekly ‘Etsy’ table staffed by volunteer Etsy members from my area. It’s cute and it’s uber-local.

The site also features a customized bidding option. Say you want a knit scarf that’s all done in a bird design with your name intertwined throughout it (just saying…), you can post the project and crafters will bid on it. Shyeah! Nothing, absolutely nothing is hotter than customized clothing. Anyway, the point of this post was to list a few recent Etsy finds that stand out…check it out…

Shopbop to Launch Designer Boutique

According to fashionindie.com and the Shopbop website, your favorite online store for independent designers and mine (that would be Shopbop) is opening a designer boutique this fall. Moving from Marc, Carmen Ho, Twinkle and Se7en Jeans, Shopbop is going to launch a high-end designer boutique that will not only let me ogle items I absolutely can’t afford, but also sell works from lines like Chris Benz, Jenni Kayne, Derek Lam, Givenchy and Sari Gueron (those would be the ones I can’t afford).

What I like about Shopbop is they focus on a certain style, organize by trend, boast some really great lookbooks and even better sales. Here’s to hoping those majorly discounted sale prices will extend to their high-end arena.

Sale at Made Boutique

Made Boutique, a super cute and ultra-adorable store in Vermont that also, thankfully, happens to have an online shop, is having a big anniversary sale July 25-29th. Let’s hope that sale extends to the web.

Made sells products created mostly by local, independent designers from the Northeast United States. The bulk of their goods are one of a kind and handmade. Admittedly, their online store is pretty sparse compared to the bricks-and-mortar location, but hopefully they’ll pick it up a bit and start getting more work out there.
