Straight from the catwalk in Paris, this Givenchy Haute Couture collection is amazingly ready to wear if you ask me. Beautiful, though — and still quite experimental. Riccardo Tisci is showing some real class at a really young age — and I’m really quite impressed.

My favorite looks are right below this paragraph — as you can see I’m enjoying the most wearable pieces most… Sorry, I’m oldfashioned. :D

Udo Edling Haute Couture S/S 2008

When I first looked at the pictures from this Udo Edling Haute Couture show I wasn’t sure about whether or not I liked it… I looked over all the pics a second time — a third time — and I’m starting to understand the pure genius of this collection.

Pros:
+ Tights over the shoes look is really working for these silhouettes.
+ Sober, but the frivolousness is in the details!
+ The fabrics look like they just descended from heaven.

Cons:
- I do have quite a few Katie Holmes flashback moments.
- This might be a little too boring for some.

I’m adoring quite a few of the new Haute Couture collections being shown in Paris — but this Josep Font Haute Couture collection for Spring/Summer 2008 is an absolute stormer… Daring silhouettes, sexy cuts and extraordinary color use…

I’ve been a fan of Josep Font for quite some time — and I’ve just become even more hooked. :)

Zowie Broach and Brian Kirkby are geniusses. I’m loving their Haute Couture SS08 line, and I’m loving the catsuit so much I wish I was a billionaire. Jayson Brundson Spring/Summer 2008

This collection by Australian designer Jayson Brundson is stunning. All the designs are so feminine and beautiful, and nothing overdone, just beautiful fabrics, graphics, and designs. His label is inspired by the looks and lives of iconic women, and it really shows in his work. These dresses are absolutely beautiful, and again, they are so simple and elegant. I love that they arenâ€™t dripping with hardware and bombarded with frills and multi-colors. This simplicity is what I love to see on the catwalk, and Jayson has done a wonderful job, in my opinion, of capturing the essence of femininity.

Berlin Fashion Week, More Wrap-ups

Hong Kong Fashion Week

This year’s Hong Kong Fashion Week for Spring and Summer ’08 was bigger than any before it. The event ran from July 10 – 13th and hosted exhibitors from 15 countries, along with a compelling New Fashion Collection Award.

iPapier has great captures of the young designers’ catwalk efforts, but my personal favorite would have to be Lo Sing Chin;

Even his loose shifts are flowing and yet, still delicate – a difficult balance in a style that I think so often makes women look massively pregnant. All three pieces give the shoulders and collarbone a simultaneously dainty and graceful look.

Another popular show was from the Malaysian-born Bernard Foong;

These are surprisingly attractive (except for that first dress which looks like a sea foam Lush bath bomb exploded) for designs coming from a man responsible for this. (pssst…Bernard…time to update your website)

Berlin Fashion Week, so Ideal

Berlin Fashion Week kicked off last week. And though everyone’s talking about the Hugo Boss show and subsequent celebrity-studded after party, I think the real goods can be found amongst the emerging designers and gallery exhibitions.

As always, Berlin is a city ready and willing to foster new talent. The Ideal Showroom, part of the week’s ongoing events, is dedicated to showcasing progressive and avant-garde work by designers like Hyeres winner Sandra Backlund;

Wood Wood;

and Doreen Schulz’s C. Neeon Label;

The Ideal Fashion Show segment took place on July 14th.

Prada Hosts Auction

Whether it’s an attempt to cash in on a fashion frenzy, elevate the status of Prada to art, or simply raise some cash for a good cause – the elite fashion house is auctioning off 24 one-of-a-kind pieces at Prada.com from now until July 25th. Items are updated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and they’re currently auctioning off three pieces â€“ like this Fiocco dress featured on the Papierdoll Blog.

The bidding on this beautiful dress currently sits at 910 Euros (about $1200), and the high bidder right now? None other than fashion fanatic – FashionPig. The beige dress with embossed bodice and wool/silk radzmire skirt finished by a organza petticoat is a one-of-a-kind prototype that was created for Prada’s Autumn/Winter ’07 collection. The piece has never been shown on the catwalk and is, of course, a size Small.

Items that will be up for grabs over the next few weeks include dresses, shirts, bags, and shoes with several pieces that were created specifically for the auction. The proceeds of the sale will benefit Fondazione San Raffaele, a medical research facility in Italy.

Haute Couture: The Sequel

It’s Saturday and the Haute Couture Fall/Winter showings at Paris Fashion Week are still over. Sigh again.

Yesterday, I was lamenting over Chanel’s boxiness, but don’t worry, there’s still hope for the curve. Check out Giorgio Armani Prive‘s delightfully defined waistlines;

That last dress looks just about perfect for my hips. It actually seems to be based on my exact body type (minus the wing on the left shoulder, I don’t have that).

And though everyone is talking about Dior’s star-studded, multi-million dollar 60th anniversary party at Versailles, I’m more interested in the sustainability of the whole business when almost all the top designers are moments away for retirement and everything totters on brand recognition.
