Animal Prints Making a Come-Back
Posted: 9/7/08Animal prints are slowly making a comeback, owing much to the emerging Asian/African/Safari trend that’s been spotted on the runways of designers like Diane Von Furstenberg, Christian LaCroix, Proenza Schouler, Oscar de la Renta and Dolce & Gabbana.
Leopard-print is still the jungle classic of choice, but pieces in other prints (like tiger and zebra stripes, and giraffe and cheetah-spots) have been seen roaming the runways along with the classic in many 2008 spring collections. The key to wearing animal prints this season, is moderation. A little goes a long way. Instead of wearing an entire outfit in coordinating prints (tacky!) pair prints with neutrals or solids. For instance, you can wear a zebra-patterned skirt with a solid-colored jacket; or a tiger-print top with solid-colored trousers. Subtle highlights like a belt, a bag, a scarf or a piece of jewelry in the print of your choice, are also an understated but chic ways to wear this trend.
