Alek: From Sudanese Refugee To International Supermodel

This month’s Vogue magazine features a fantastic excerpt from Alek Wek’s upcoming book - Alek: From Sudanese Refugee to International Supermodel.
Wek grew up in the war-torn Sudan, amidst strife and ongoing conflict, but since the day she was scouted by a modelling agency while shopping in London, Alek has been an international force on the fashion circuit.
Her journey is an amazing one and I really found myself captivated by the small snippet available (about 4-5 pages). Honestly, I don’t expect much from celebrity memoirs, but Wek’s seems not only sincere and compelling, but also well-written. She makes these really great insights into the ongoing culture shock she faced as a new refugee. They’re cute, but also a poignant reflection on refugee life in Europe. The book hits on August 28th or pick up a copy of Vogue for a preview. Blog-Tique book club anyone?
