Adirondack Barn Coats from L.L.Bean
Posted: 11/4/08With winter fast approaching, warmer clothes in the way of outer garments are a necessity. One company that reminds us of the cooler season is L.L.Bean, a ninety-five year old American company, founded in 1912 by Leon Leonwood Bean. Initially known for his “Maine Hunting Shoe”, Bean built a world wide business starting from a small mailing list, a flyer, and a few pairs of his hunting and fishing shoes. Today, the brand has expanded to include garments for the whole family, dads, moms, kids and dogs included.

And if you think that practical outerwear is not stylish, think again, because this season’s Adirondack Barn Jackets are every bit as fashionable as other women’s coat lines. Indeed, it is somewhat odd to say that a barn coat is fashionable because original barn coats had nothing to do with fashion. A practical garment sewn to keep you warm and dry from the elements, it was used as an outside coat that you threw on when you had to run from the house to the barn to do chores.
Most people today would not buy the barn coat for its original purpose but rather opting to wear it with a specific outfit. Take a peek how great this female model looks in her Adirondack Barn Jacket from the September 2008 home delivered catalog. Does it not look super unbuttoned with a knitted turtleneck sweater?
The jacket is tailored just enough that it does not appear bulky or messy and it actually complements both jeans and dress pants. In a large selection of colors, there would be at least one jacket to match any fall outfit. Best of all is the price point at $49.50!
